There will be a 'prealgebra' competition open to any students who have not taken algebra 1 or geometry.   It will start at around 10 and more details will be given by email later to interested schools.  The cost for that competition is $8.00 per student.

Suncoast is once again hosting a February Regional and looking forward to another successful competition.


-Region 5 schools on the east coast: We are a short drive up I-95 or the Turnpike in northern Palm Beach County if you prefer not driving to the west coast.

-The deadline for online registration and mailing your payment is January 19, 2019.  Please mail checks to:

King High School welcomes our Mu Alpha Theta colleagues to the Region IV competition on February 2, 2019. We are pleased to be hosting once again and look forward to seeing you soon. To help you plan your visit, here are a few general reminders:

Registration should be done online, with fees postmarked by January 19, 2019. Please make checks payable to King High School and mail to:

Please bring your highlighted registration list (from the FAMAT member roster) to check-in on the day of the competition. Registration check-in will be in the Student Affairs Office near the front of the school (please follow posted signs). 

Teams: We will seat two 3-4 person teams in all divisions. Please be sure to indicate on the highlighted registration sheet you bring to check-in which students are on each team. 

Schedule: We will follow the standard FAMAT schedule for regional competitions, as posted in the downloadable Sponsor's Guide, with one modification (to begin the awards ceremony earlier).

Parking: Car parking is available in a smaller lot at the front of the school and a larger lot in the rear. Both parking lots are accessible from Sligh Avenue. Bus parking is in the rear of the school near the bus ramp. (Please do not attempt to bring the bus into the front lot. The configuration does not support bus traffic.)

Food: For those choosing to remain on campus during the lunch break, pizza will be available for $10/large pizza (pepperoni or cheese), ordered in advance. Payment (cash only, please) will be due at check-in; however, orders must be placed in advance to meet vendor requirements. Refreshments will be available throughout the day at the concession area (in front of the cafeteria, location of the team rounds). As always, sponsors will have complimentary refreshments in the faculty dining room (next to the cafeteria, location of the team rounds).

Palm Harbor University High School February 16, 2019 Invitational

Palm Harbor is EXCITED to host the February Invitational!

No limit on the number of students taking the Individual test. ($10 each)

If students are not on the team, they may take the Open test as their other round.

    (No student should be sitting around, doing nothing during either testing round.)

 

1.  Registration should be done online then mail the check made out to Palm Harbor University High and registration forms postmarked by Feb 2, 2019 to Palm Harbor University High 1900 Omaha St. Palm Harbor, FL 34683 Attn: Becky Bride

 

2. We can only seat one team per division, except for Statistics and Algebra 1 (we will seat as many 3 or 4-person teams as possible, so register early).  Extra students after these teams, will be seated together for practice.

For the extra “non-team” members we will have a THETA (Geometry and Algebra 2) Open test and an ALPHA   (Pre-Calculus and Calculus) Open test.

These questions come directly from past practice tests. Trophies will be given.

These tests are FREE, BUT you must register the number of tests needed online.   

DO NOT count students that are sitting for the team-round, they cannot be on the team AND take the OPEN test.

 

3. Please bring your highlighted enrollment list, downloaded from www.floridamao.org with the participating competitors’ names and ID#s highlighted.

 

4. Testing will start PROMPTLY at 9am so be in your room by 8:55 am.  We will have Individual tests for

Algebra 1, Geometry, Algebra 2, Pre-Calculus, Calculus and Statistics.

 

5. Pizza will be sold day of the competition for $10 for pepperoni or cheese, includes tax and delivery.  (CASH ONLY).  $ is due by 9 AM on 2/16/19.  Please enter the number of pizzas on the online registration but do NOT include on the check. Cash ONLY.  We will also sell snacks and drinks for students.

The Governor’s Square Mall is about 2.5 miles away and offers a variety of lunch options if you would prefer to go off-campus.

March Statewide (American Heritage Boca/Delray)Saturday, March 16, 2019

American Heritage School of Boca / Delray is pleased to host the March 16th, 2019 FAMAT Statewide Invitational!


The deadline for online registration and mailing your payment is March 2, 2019.  Registration ends fourteen days prior to the competition and the cost is $10.00 per individual test.  (Students taking both Statistics and another division individual test must pay for TWO tests.) Open tests are no additional charge.


The Registration Desk will open at 7:30 a.m.

We will need proctors for both individual and team rounds.  Please volunteer.

There are three open tests available to all students not on a Calculus, Statistics, Precalculus, Geometry, or Algebra II team:

Mu Open for Calculus students

Alpha Open for Precalculus students

Theta Open for Geometry and Algebra II students

Statistics students not on a team must take either the Mu Individual or Alpha Individual during Individual Test Session 1 depending on their current registration status.  There is no open test available to Algebra I students. Open tests awards to top 15 individual scores but are not included in sweepstakes scoring.


Due to limited space, seating for only 1 team in each division.

Team Scoring:  Each team test (with the exception of Algebra 1 and Geometry) is scored by parts with NO summary answer, NO sliding scale, and NO bonus points.  Thus, a question submitted in the first minute will earn 4 points per each correct part, a question submitted in the second minute will earn 3 points per each correct part, and so on. Algebra 1 and Geometry team tests are scored according the previous scheme along with 4, 3, 2, or 1 additional bonus points for getting all four parts correct in a given minute. Thus, a question submitted with all four points correct in the first minute will earn 4 points for each part and and additional 4 bonus points for a total of 20 points, question submitted with all four parts correct in the second minute will earn 3 points for each part and an additional 3 bonus points for a total of 15 points, etc.
